The brooch employed a spring mechanism, secured by a Polden Hill claw type arrangement. The wings are plain and slightly rearward facing. The bow has the characteristic ‘dolphin’ profile and has two low mouldings on the head around the wings. The bow is decorated with a central recessed groove, which forks around the claw at the head. Either side of the central groove are short oblique incised lines. The bow has a rounded D-shaped section. The beginnings of the catch-plate are visible above the break.
