Copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.l, flat wing ends type, West Midlands). It has rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that would have held the pin axis bar. A truncated loop at the top of the head would have held the spring external cord. The shoulders and terminals of the wings are expanded. A double groove runs from the top of the head, down the length of the surviving brooch. The lower part of the bow is missing resulting in the loss of the catch pate. Date 80-120AD.
At some point during its use that spring broke and was repaired by drilling a hole in the right wing, passing a copper alloy wire through the hole and wrapping it round the spring, binding the spring to the wing
