Medieval, cast copper alloy strap end with a ball, or globular shaped terminal. On the side of the ball project two, parallel plates, 14.8mm long by 3.4mm wide forming a bifurcated, attachment plate through which is 1.7mm diameter copper alloy rivet. Length 22.0mm, Diameter 8.0mm, Mass 3.16g.
The dating of these ball-like strapends is difficult as none have been found in a useful context but a related strap end, from Upton Scudamore, Wiltshire, terminates in a Romanesque animal head, suggesting a date in second half of the 11th or the 12th cent. (WILT-8F33A4). A date range for these strap ends of c. 1050 - 1400 seems likely.
