An incomplete copper alloy mount or strap fitting, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
The mount is sub triangular (tear drop) in shape and rectangular in section. The obverse is convex (slightly bowed) with bevelled edges and has a ring and dot decoration on its surface. The reverse is concave and contains two integrally cast attachment spikes. Each spike is incomplete and has a sub square cross section.
The mount measures 31.1 mm in length, it has a maximum width of 11.1 mm and 5.8 mm thick. It weighs 2.6 grams.
The mount is a mid green to mid brown in colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the ploughsoil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
