An incomplete copper-alloy small-long brooch of Early Anglo-Saxon date. It is missing the terminal of the foot, the spring, pin and part of the lug and catchplate due to old breaks, now worn.
The head-plate is flat rectangular. The front face is decorated with three longitudinal grooves on each outer edge. Within these are four ring and dot motifs in 2-2 formation. The back face is undecorated and has the remains of a double pin lug. Attached to the head is the bow. This is narrowed, faceted and D-shaped in section, with a concave back face. At the base of the bow are the remains of the foot. This is flat and rectangular. The front face is decorated with two central ring and dot motifs in a longitudinal line. To either side are two diagonal perforations. The back face is undecorated and has the remains of the catchplate.
This brooch measures 42.00mm in length, 21.60mm in width at the head, 8.56mm in width at the bow, 23.66mm in width at the foot, 1.95mm in thickness at the head plate, 3.03mm in thickness at the bow, 1.78mm in thickness at the foot, 9.69g in weight.
It finds parallels in examples published from Suffolk (West, 1998, p. 147, no. 3) and by Penn and Brugmann (Penn and Brugmann, 2007, p. 72, Fig. 5.22) falling in their Phase FA2 group, c. 450-480 AD.
