A copper alloy plate dating from the medieval period, about AD 1300-1400. It represents the front plate from a composite strap-end with forked spacer. The plate is sub-rectangular or tongue-shaped, with a concave end at the attachment or open end, and a rounded terminal or closed end. The sides taper slightly towards the closed end. There is a circular hole or aperture 3.4mm diameter close to the open end, and two copper alloy rivets survive, one on each side of this hole. There are traces of solder on the reverse where a forked spacer was attached; the solder runs all around the closed end and down each long edge, petering out near to the rivets.
The plate is decorated with a pair of untidily incised lines that run the length of the plate in the centre. Oblique double lines separate the hole and rivets from the rest of the plate. Further single oblique lines divide the areas on each side of the centre line into triangles. Alternate triangles are filled with rocker-arm or short dashed lines.
The plate is in good condition and has a smooth green patina. It is 55.3mm long, 19.82mm wide, 4mm thick (across the rivets), 0.9mm thick across the plate, and 4.88g.
