An incomplete copper-alloy Post-Medieval (1600-1700) belt hook and attachment link, probably from a sword belt or baldrick. The hook would have had a separate back plate, which is now missing.
The hooked section is circular, domed with five longitudinal facets and hollow to the reverse. One end has a pentagonal attachment-knop with central rivet hole (1.92mm diameter, rivet now lost) extending from a transverse rib. From the opposite end extends a solid double transverse ridge from which projects a recurving blunt hook. Around this hangs one loop of the three-conjoined-loop attachment link. Each loop is c.9mm in diameter (internal 5-6mm diameter) and the attachment link is max.3.12mm thick.
To the reverse an in situ rivet pierces the double transverse ridge. It is not apparent to the front.
The hooked fitting measures 47.25mm in length; with the attachment link the ensemble measures 59.68mm. It is 21.41mm in max.width and 10.17mm in max.depth (at the hook). It weighs 11.64g.
