A gold ring, possibly fitting rather than a finger ring. The ring has a sub-rectangular section and is undecorated. It is now distorted into a sub-rectangular shape in plan. There are no maker's marks or hallmarks, nor is there an obvious seam in the band. Post-medieval finger rings are often decorated but even if they are not they usually have a D-shaped cross section and thicker band. It is also seemingly too plain to be of Roman or early-medieval date, so as this ring is generally undiagnostic and out of context it is not possible to securely date it to pre- AD 1714, therefore it falls outside of the remit of The Treasure Act 1996.
