An incomplete, damaged and misshapen Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch (AD 25-65).
The catch-plate is missing.
This brooch has small wings and the bow tapers in width from the top to the bottom. The bow is rectangular in cross-section, 5.6mm in width at the head and 2.1mm thick. It has a lateral spring of six coils and the external chord is secured by a forward facing integral hook.
The brooch is corroded and reddish brown with bright green corrosion products. The spring is has a break close to the chord.
Height of bow: 39.7mm; overall height: 47.4mm; width of wings: 10.8mm. Weight: 5.71g.
This brooch is very similar to one recorded from Thetford, Norfolk (Hattatt 1985: 27, fig. 11, ref: 249).
