A Medieval (1100-1250) gilded copper alloy horse harness pendant with damage to its suspension loop. The object is oval in shape and now rather bent, though originally probably concave to the reverse (and convex to the front). The suspension loop extends turned through 90 degrees to the plate and has a central hole c.2mm in diameter.
The plate is 1.3mm thick and decorated to the front only, with five inverted V shapes created by pairs of tiny opposed punched triangles. Each arm of the V is slightly curving (concave). Patches of gilding are visible on this surface.
The loop is c.3mm thick at join, narrowing to c.2mm at the other end.
The object measures 37.04mm in height, 34.60mm in max.width and 7.77mm in max.depth. It weighs 7.59g.
Steven Ashley suggests a 12th/ early 13th century date for harness pendants of a similar shape (2002, p.7).
