A copper-alloy medieval heraldic strap fitting, probably from a horse harness. The fitting is shield shaped and has the remains of a red enamel inlay. The arms are not clear and the degradation of the surface makes interpreting the arms difficult; a fess can be seen across the middle, however the nature of the divisions of the red and green area, possibly bends or bendlets (or bendy?) is unclear. This stud was quoted by Baker (2015, 8). He attributes it to the Beauchamp family, with the following blazon: 'Gules a fess between six martlets or'. If so, it might be attributable to either father (d. 1303) or son (d. 1328) Walter de Beauchamp.
The reverse of the fitting has an integrally cast shank with expanded foot, which would have been inserted through the leather strap; the foot may have been hammered flat to keep it in place. Unusually a small copper alloy washer survives around the shank.
