A complete copper-alloy oval buckle frame with offset and narrow bar and plate of folded sheet type of Medieval date.
The frame is D-shaped in section with a flat back and rounded front face. In the centre of the outer edge is a constriction for a separately cast copper-alloy cylindrical roller. There are traces of gilding on the front and back face. The copper-alloy pin is still present. It tapers to a point and has an open loop. This buckle frame measures 15.01mm in length, 15.73mm in width, 2.65mm in thickness at the frame, 5.61mm in thickness at the roller.
Attached to the frame is a rectangular buckle plate of folded sheet type. The frame end is recessed to accommodate the frame and has a rectangular pin slot. The attachment end is curvilinear. There are traces of gilding on the front and back face. Through both plates is a pair of separately cast copper-alloy rivets with flattened round heads. This buckle plate measures 29.34mm in length, 11.13mm in width, 4.00mm in thickness.
This buckle frame and plate measures 40.55mm in length and 5.64g in weight.
There is a similar example from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991, p. 70, no. 270) and recorded on the PAS database (SF7510).
