Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast cruciform brooch fragment, comprising the lowest part of the bow, a collared moulding, a horse head foot with prominent eyebrows and eyes, and a trilobate or shamrock-leaf terminal which springs in two halves from the lower part of the horse head. A thin folded catch plate projects from the back, and there are a pair of deep grooves alongside it. The metal colour is unusual: scratches and abrasion have removed a green patina to reveal a grey metal below it. This reporter originally considered this to mark a modern replica piece painted green so as to appear old, but Dr Kevin Leahy, who has kindly examined the object, finds the object genuine.
