An incomplete cast copper-alloy sword belt hanger of Post-Medieval date. It is rectangular in plan and section, with a decorative openwork plate. At one end is a transverse rectangular slot that terminates in vertical rectangular ribs with diagonal grooved decoration. From the base of this end extends an integral loop with circular aperture. The opposite end of the object has incomplete openwork decoration comprising pairs of semi-circular notches at top and bottom of the plate and a large central circular aperture. Either side of the central aperture are single circular rivet holes and at the end of the plate there is a further vertical rib with diagonal notches, missing one end due to old breaks. Pendant from the base of the object where the two halves meet is a second semi-circular loop with circular aperture. The entire object measures 49.68mm in length, 25.87mm in width, 3.53mm in thickness and 9.27g in weight.
This is an eye section from a strap fitting or toggle of Post-Medieval date, falling in Read's Early Post-Medieval Type 1 unclassified toggles group (Read, 2008: nos. 753-755; see also SF-F69CF8 for an identical example) and probably with function as a sword belt hanger or similar. It is of probable 16th-17th century AD date.
