An incomplete cast copper-alloy candlestick of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The socket is cylindrical in form with slightly flared rim, decorated on its exterior with three evenly spaced bands of double parallel ribs. At its base the socket tapers to a narrow neck that flares to collar with single transverse groove. On the underside of the collar is a short, integral cylindrical shaft or rivet. The entire object measures 40.92mm in length, 21.27mm in diameter, and 30.84g in weight.
This is an incomplete socket end from a candlestick of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The short shaft or rivet at the base suggests it was separately cast to attach to a separately cast branch, stem or base. Similar candlesticks are published by Brownsword (1985) and suggest a date range in the 15th to 16th centuries for the current example.
