An incomplete copper-alloy D-shaped buckle frame with offset and narrowed bar of Meols Type 2 and plate of folded sheet type of Medieval date. It is missing part of the back plate due to old breaks, now worn.
The frame is D-shaped in section with an expanded outer edge. The bar is narrowed and there are raised knops where it meets the frame sides. A very large copper-alloy pin is still present. It tapers to a point, has a large transverse collar and an open loop. On the front face of the pin are traces of gilding. The frame measures 20.76mm in length, 28.16mm in width, 2.69mm in thickness.
Attached to the frame is a copper-alloy D-shaped buckle plate of folded sheet type. The frame end is recessed to accommodate the frame and has a rectangular pin slot. There is a D-shaped grooved border containing rocker decoration. In the centre are three circular rivet holes. There are traces of gilding on the front face. The back face is undecorated. This buckle plate measures 19.40mm in length, 27.75mm in width, 3.04mm in thickness.
This buckle measures 44.80mm in overall length (including pin), 35.13mm in length (excluding pin), 14.41g in weight.
There is a similar example of the buckle frame from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, p. 70, no. 271).
