Post medieval copper alloy pendant loop of 17th century date
The pendant loop comprises a mount, circular ring and separate rivets (with an overall length of 35.7mmand a weight of 3.0g). The mount is widest at its apex (with a width of 12.5mm, length of 30.2mm and a thickness of 2mm) with a bifurcating top edge. The sides gradually converge towards its base. The mount is convex across its width but flat across its length. No decoration is discernible on the corroded surface. The mount was secured using two iron rivets (2.8mm diameter) which remain in place. The hook at the base is inward turning (with a depth of 6.7mm). The loop is sub-circular (9.8mm - 10.7mm diameter) and is of irregular D-shaped section (1.0mm thick and 1.2mm - 2.0mm wide). The surface has a pale green corrosion with some red-brown iron corrosion.
The pendant loop can be closely paralleled with two examples found in Norwich (Margeson, 1993, pp 38, nos 257-8)[1], both recovered from 17th century contexts.
