A Post Medieval lead alloy uniface token, probably dating from the 14th to the 18th century. The token has a series of well defined chevrons on the obverse in the form of an eight pointed star which separate the face into quarters with a pellet in each of these segments.
The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as increasing numbers of dated tokens are found. This token is therefore likely of a similar date. Similar to LON-9A5D14,
Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be post-Medieval in date (1500-1850), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the majority are probably post-Medieval in date c. 1500-1850. Tokens like this, were often used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods.
