Copper alloy unidentified object. Cast bun-shaped object with a flat-topped sub-spherical body, possibly a handle, above a sharply stepped moulded part from which projects a rounded pad with a possible character in low relief. It is uncertain whether this is an initial letter in florid style, an indeterminate motif, or even an oriental character: at all events it would, being a positive feature, leave a negative impression if used as a stamp or seal. A trial (illustrated) produced no clear mark. The flat top appears to have been hammered or pounded in the course of its use. Suggested date: possibly Post-Medieval, 1500-1900.
