Copper alloy with gilding possible scabbard chape or fitting. Cast sub-rectangular object, hollow, and now open at both its ends, with sides c.1.5mm thick all round. The sides at one end are now splayed outwards, which, given the thickness of the material, would have required significant force. Decoration, apparently identical on both sides, comprises pairs of horizontally incised lines above and below a fixing hole of diameter 1.5mm, and relict traces of gilding overall. Suggested date: possibly Roman, 43-410.
Length: 32.4mm, Width: 28.3mm, Thickness (overall): 6.3mm, Weight: 15.78gms.
