A copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. The head is a plain, slightly flattened trumpet bell. Behind is an integral loop to hold the pin mechanism and spring. The spring, pin, and axis bar are all missing. The upper bow is plain until the double collar above the acanthus button. This projects all round the bar, but extends further at the front than at the back. The button is discoidal and has three layers of petals. A matching double collar decorated the top of the lower bow, which then becomes D shaped in section with a flat back from which the catchplate protrudes. The lower bow and foot are missing. The breaks are worn and patinated. The brooch has a patch dark green and red patina. It is 36.6mm long, 17.11mm wide, 16.6mm thick and weighs 13.71g.
