Obverse: Shield of Saint George within a wreath formed of a palm and laurel branch. Inscription: Not applicable. Reverse: Conjoined shields of Saint George and Ireland with a mark of value I above. Inscription: Not applicable. Die axis: 12 o'clock. Very worn or fair condition, slightly distorted by agricultural machinery, possibly slightly clipped and with an attractive silver colour. This coin is likely to date between 1649-1660. Ref. Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2014, page 319 no. 3222 and English Hammered Coinage Vol. 2, J.J.North, Spink 1991 reprint 2006, page 206 no. 2729. The coin is 12.02mm long (distorted), 11.89mm wide, 0.57mm thick, diameter 12.02mm and weighs 0.4g.
