A complete and corroded post-Medieval cast copper-alloy hooked mount (c. 1550-c. 1650).

The mount is convex at the front and partially concave at the rear. It is sub-trapezoidal in plan with a small 'U'-shaped incurve at the centre of the upper edge. The sides taper towards the rearwards projecting integral hook which is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear. Two rivet holes, one close to the upper edge and the other just below the centre of the plate, are both filled with the remains of an iron rivet. There is a transverse incised line just above the hook. The tip of the hook makes contact with the rear of the plate and it retains a free running copper-alloy ring. This ring has an outer diameter of 10.4mm and a thickness of 2.0mm.

The plate and the ring are corroded and in poor condition. They are partially covered with a dark green patina over the reddish brown metal.

Length of plate: 34.0mm; width: 12.4mm; thickness: 10.2mm. Weight: 5.66g.

Similar mounts, probably associated with sword belts, have been published and illustrated (Margeson 1993: 39, refs: 257, 258).
