Copper alloy buckle fragment, as kindly identified by Rob Webley. Rob comments: 'This is part of a medieval buckle frame - along the lines of PUBLIC-BF7CEE'.
Cast broad U-shaped object comprising an engrailed strip which appears as if folded towards both ends, though it was actually cast in this form. Incised decoration comprises a pair of hatched panels on the upright sides, a further pair of hatched panels towards the ends of the basal strip, and four vertically incised rays at its centre. A spot of white metal plating occurs on two elements of the incised decoration. Suggested date: possibly Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.
