The brooch is missing the foot, but is otherwise intact. The brooch employed a spring, secured by a Polden Hill claw type arrangement. The spring has broken in antiquity, and the brooch was repaired by inserting a copper alloy pin around the axis bar. The wings are comparatively short and are plain. The upper bow is of sub-triangular section and is decorated with cast ornament. The sides of the head have a slight raised collar respecting the wings. The claw has a V-shaped moulding along the top of the bow. The sides of the bow have a raised pellet placed on a stepped raised moulding, which continues along the sides of the bow as far as the break.
