Mount

Unique ID: NMGW-98EDE1

Object type certainty:

Cast copper alloy three dimensional mount probably depicting a lion or similar, and was likely to have been attached to the lid of a small box. Traces of gilding survive on areas of the mount. The base is rectangular and open at the centre. At the rear is a trefoil leaf terminal with a perforation for attachment. There was likely to have been another terminal at the front, which has broken across two small perforations. The beast is simply cast with a wide neck and incised lines depicting a mane. The body is more slender at the point where the mane ends and there are also connecting strips to the base, resembling additional legs. The beast has no tail, and no evidence of a break.
