A cast copper alloy probable spur attachment hook with a rounded lozenge shaped bosy and hooks projecting from each end, curling in opposite directions. This S shape suggests that it was probably used as a hook attachment for spur leathers. There is no evidence of any rivets so it could not have been used as a mount, though it could also be an extremely distorted finger ring.
One hook is apparently complete. The other seems trunctaed and is also bent flata nd doubled back on itself. This is probably post-depositional damage. The hook has a smooth green patina and is 26.8mm long, 11.82mm wide and 9mm thick. 1.73g.
Ellis in Clark (2004) illustrates similar examples on page 140 and page 148, Fig.106, which were found in 14th-century contexts, but typologically date from the 13th to the 16th century. Compare CORN-C05372 which cites Read (2001) as illustrating a similar example on page 65, Fig.41, No.503, which is dated from the 13th to the 16th century.
