STRAP FITTING

A cast copper alloy, strap slide or strap mount type of strap fitting dating probably from the 17th century. The decorative front plate is lozenge shaped with a trefoil or fleur de lis terminal at each end. The front is moulded, though pitting now obscures most of the design. Projecting from the reverse at the narrowest points are the two stubs of rectangular sectioned integral attachments which probably originally formed a rectangular loop, though this is now broken. The reverse is plain. The metal has a grey green patina, pitted to reveal red metal. The mount is 27.27mm long, 9.28mm wide and 11.56mm thick. 2.91g.
