A cast copper alloy, hooked tag of Medieval or early post-Medieval date, AD 1450 - 1550. There is a circular, domed central plate with a trapezoidal attachment loop at the top and a curved hook depending from the bottom. The tip of the hook is missing. The plate carries the moulded letters IHS within a border of small, oval pellets. The underside of the central plate is concave; the remainder of the underside is flat. The tag has a smooth, dark brown patina with some red discolouration. It is 34.1mm long, 13.25mm wide, 3.4mm thick and 2.42g.
Compare database record IOW-0A9AC6 which cites Read, 2008, Hooked Clasps and Eyes, and identifies this variety of tag as Read class E, Type 3.
