Medieval biconical lead spindle whorl with cast zig-zag decoration on both faces.Similar to an example from Meols (Griffiths et al. 2007, no. 2198) and one from an early 16th-cent. context at the Augustinian Friary, Leicester, complete with its wooden spindle (Mellor and Pierce 1981, 139-40, fig.51 no.71). It is possible that the object was residual, but it is unlikely to have been very ancient when deposited in the context, in view of its completeness. Diameter 28mm. Thickness 12.5mm. Hole diameter 9mm. Weight 42.90g. c.1450 - c.1539.
