A complete copper alloy double sided intaglio from a fob seal, of Georgian dating (AD 1700 to AD 1800).
The intaglio is oval in shape. The device depicts a classical style portrait on one side, and a double handled vase holding three flowers on the other. Circular suspension holes re presnet on either side. Impressions of the matrix were not taken.
It measures 17.2 mm in length, 15.3 mm wide and 3.3 mm thick. It weighs 3.9 g.
The intaglio is a mid to dark green colour with an even surface patina. Slight abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
A similar seal matrix has been recorded on the PAS database as DUR-002A31 and NLM-FF60F4.
