An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting or belt mount, in the form of a stylised Acorn, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
The mount is irregular in plan and section. It consists of a pointed oval shape, with a hooked extension on the base. Faint traces of decoration are present, consisting of a line across the centre of the pointed oval. The reverse is plain and undecorated. Two incomplete integrally cast attachment spikes, both with circular sections are present on the reverse of the pointed oval.
It measures 36.5 mm in length, 15.5 mm wide and 5.5 mm thick. It weighs 2.8 grams.
The mount is a mid brown colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the ploughsoil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
The mount is similar to other examples recorded on the PAS database, including WMID-249FA4 and NMS-4A3666, which has identified it as a stylised Acorn, with a hooked stem at the base. Read (2001, 29) has published several examples (#331-4), which exhibit the decoration in its original detail. They are believed to be of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
