A Medieval copper-alloy hooked strap fitting.
The attachment end of the fitting consists of a rectangular plate with convex upper surface and a flat underside, from which projects a pair of integrally cast, circular-sectioned rivets with flattened distal ends. A transverse ridge marks the transition between the base of the plate and the forward hook, the latter of which is of flattened-oval section, tapering towards its distal end, where there is a much wider, rectangular, flat-sectioned terminal. Traces of gilding survive on the upper surface of the heavily corroded object.
Length: 47.8mm; width: 12.4mm; depth: 15.2mm. Weight: 13.83g.
There are good parallels for this piece in Read (2008), nos 807 and 808, but here they are dated to the 16th or 17th century. A medieval date is suggested by the similarity to harness hooks, and confirmed by the enamelled decoration on CORN-B8D780.
