Medieval to Post Medieval (c. 1100 until c. 1850) cooking vessel handle: In plan the handle is a 'L' shape which is a sub-lozenge in section. One terminal is flat and at right-angles with broken edge. The face of the terminal is smooth and would form the interior of the vessel. The opposite terminal is obliquely angled and also has a flat surface with broken edges, which would also form the interior of the vessel. The surface of the hand has a matte mid grey surface with heavy deposits of carbon build up. It measures 109.82mm long, 27.42mm wide and weighs 106.9g.
Egan (1998, 163) illustrates similar cooking vessels. These types of objects tend to date to the Medieval and early Post Medieval periods, c. 1100 until c. 1850 when cast iron cooking vessels are used instead.
