The present coin dates to the late British Iron Age, circa 50-30 BC. It is a 'Climping type' gold stater (see Cottam et al 2010, Ancient British Coinage, p. 49, no. 524). The current specimen was made using the same pair of punches (or dies) as the eight specimens reported in 2001, the two coins from the 2004 addenda (2004T114) and the single 'Climping type' from the 2006 addenda (2006T107; SUSS-861DE4). The 'Climping type' is a left facing version of the common 'British L' series.

Notes:

This case is unusual as the coin does not come with an archaeological provenance having surfaced in the coin trade (shown at the British Museum in 2013). On the balance of probabilities, however, it is highly likely that it originated from the site of the original Climping hoard: There have been no reported discoveries of 'Climping type' coins from other sites. However, the original vendor presented evidence if its discovery pre-dating the treasure case of August 2000.

Even subsequently, it is now apparent that the number of coins discovered exceeded the number reported in August 2000. Undeclared coins from the site are recognised as having made it onto the open market, including those identified as the 2004 addenda. Furthermore it is significant that all of the known specimens of the 'Climping type' coins, including the present example, were struck using the same dies. This supports the idea that they represented a single batch of coins that remained together right from the moment of their production, through to their deliberate deposition or loss.
