The brooch is represented by the head and upper bow only. It employed a spring mechanism secured by a Polden Hill claw type mechanism. The plain wings are short and are angled slightly to the rear. The head would have carried cast ornament, which is now lost, apart from a small surviving remnant on one side of the head. The upper bow was probably of D-shaped or sub-triangular section.
