Unique ID: NMGW-311883

Object type certainty:

Copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment of Polden Hill type and dating to the 1st century AD. The brooch is represented by the head and upper bow only. It employed a spring mechanism secured by a Polden Hill claw type mechanism. The plain wings are short and are angled slightly to the rear. The head would have carried cast ornament, which is now lost, apart from a small surviving remnant on one side of the head. The upper bow was probably of D-shaped or sub-triangular section.
