The mount has broken at the neck and is damaged around the nose and mouth, in addition to having lost the original surface. The mount depicts the head of Christ wearing a crown with three lobes. The eyes are perforated and are likely to have held small blue glass beads. The mouth appears down-turned and there is the suggestion of facial hair above the mouth, suggesting Christ was depicted with a beard. The tear at the base of the mount is confined to the left side, and may suggest that Christ was depicted with his head to the right, implying a crucifixion scene. The mount is hollow, while the top of the head can be seen behind the crown when viewed from above. The mount was likely to have been gilt and associated with enamelled metalwork. The mount is likely to have been imported from south central France and was produced by the Limoges or similar workshops in operation from circa 1100 to 1350.
