A cast lead alloy standing weight of pyramidal in plan, with octagonal facetted outer edges. The weight has a flat octagonal bottom, smooth sides and a flattened suspension loop at its apex, which is rectangular in cross-section, with a transverse circular hole pierced through it. A V-shaped groove is visible on the underside of the base and is only a 3-4 mm deep within the standing weight. The weight measures approximately 53 mm high, 31.7-32.8 mm wide at base and weighs 239 grams. The metal is of a dark grey colour and patina.
Because standing weights of this type were easy to manufacture and widely produced, they are difficult to date specifically without secure archaeological contexts. It is likely that this example dates from the Medieval to Post Medieval periods. Cf. Biggs and Withers 2000, p. 32, nos. 72 and 74.
