Copper alloy buckle. Cast single looped buckle with a concavo-convex outer edge bearing zoomorphic or interlaced ornament, now weathered; a central beast snout may appear at the outer edge of the frame flanked by further less distinct elements in a low relief scheme. This ornamented part of the frame is markedly bevelled behind, probably as provision for the passage of a robust strap. The reddish tint of the abraded surface of the object is a common trait of Anglo-Scandinavian metalwork from the region. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 1000-1100.
