Early Medieval, cast copper alloy strap end of Thomas' Class B Type 1, characterised by a zoomorhic terminal and transverse grooving. The animal's head is highly stylised and represented by two notches on each side of the head which define the eyes. The transverse grooving is irregular and extends for around 60% of the length of the strap end, above which is the split end. This is damaged but two, 2.4mm holes can be seen, separated by two notches. The incised decoration contains traces of a crystaline substance which is likely to be enamel. Condition poor and corroded, the strap end is slightly bent. Length 41.4mm, Width 11.4mm, Thickness 2.7mm.
