A fragment of a Medieval (1250 - 1450) copper-alloy composite strap end. The fragment consists of the end a forked spacer, the central element of a strap end with a sheet plate afixing either side. Only a very small amount of the spacer plate (8.05mm in length) and an acorn terminal knop remains. The fragment measures 16.64mm in length, being a maximum of 6.67mm wide and 4.80mm in maximum thickness, and weighs 1.28g. The acorn terminal is oval in cross-section, modelled and decorated in the round, with criss-cross grooves denoting the outer cup.
Similar knops on forked spacers for composite strap ends can be found in Egan and Pritchard (1991: 141, fig. 92).
