An incomplete copper alloy Roman (AD c.100-c.200) headstud brooch with hinge mechanism, missing part of the top loop, the tip of the foot, most of its pin and most of its catchplate. Overall, the brooch measures 45.7mm long, 16.8mm wide and c.16.3mm thick. It weighs 6.65g.

The wings are sub-cylindrical behind a projecting rectangular front. They are 5.8mm long, have a wingspan of 16.8mm and are 4.6mm thick. There is a central slot for the pin, which still contains the hinge part of the pin. Projecting from the top of the wings is an incomplete circular loop measuring 8.6mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick. The front of the wings are decorated with steps.

The bow is nearly flat in section, with a slightly convex front face. It projects forwards from the head of the brooch and then bends downwards towards the foot. The foot is a continuation of the bow and is missing its tip. The bow and foot taper in width from 8.5mm at the wings to 5.3mm at broken end of the foot. Before the bend, the bow is 5.1mm thick. Below the bend, the bow and foot are 2.2mm thick. The incomplete catchplate projects from the reverse of the foot. Decoration consists of lozengiform and triangular enamelled settings. Only a very small amount of the enamel survives, which is now a pale blue colour. There is also a circular stud at the head end of the bow (where the bow bends) with a ring-shaped setting for enamel which appears to have been red.
