A fragment of a copper alloy Roman (AD c.43-c.200) bow-and-fantail or trumpet derivative brooch, missing its head, pin, part of its bow, fragments from its foot and the curl of the catchplate. Overall, the fragment measures 28.7mm long, 13.7mm wide and 5.6mm thick. It weighs 4.01g. The fragment consists of a sub-triangular foot, missing its lower corners, and a sub-circular piece of the bow, broken at the top and around its edges. The foot is decorated with a pair of recessed ring-and-dots and has a grooved border around its edges. The bow is decorated with two raised concentric circles with a central recess. The bow and foot both measure c.3mm thick. The broken catchplate runs down the centre of the foot. The brooch has traces of silvering or tinning.
