A Medieval, cast copper alloy, sub-rectangular buckle with a folded sheet copper alloy buckle plate, dating from AD 1350 - 1400. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. The expanded outer edge is bevelled and has a single, central groove to accommodate the copper alloy wire pin. The pin remains in place. The folded end of the plate has recessed shoulders and a central notch to accommodate the buckle frame and pin respectively. There is a single, central rivet hole at the attachment end of the plate; the rivet is missing. The buckle and plate have a smooth, glossy, dark green patina. It is 41.7mm long, 15.2mm wide and 4mm thick. It weighs 4.93gm.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, 2003, Buckles 1250 - 1800, page 27, number 139. See also Egan and Pritchard page 96.
