A cast copper alloy headstud brooch dating to the Roman period. The head is comprised of short tubular wings from the centre of which the bow projects up before tapering downwards terminating with a recent break.
At the top of the bow is a slight raised circular headstud which is decorated with a punched circular depression. The depression is empty but may have once contained enamel. The bow is decorated with three wide horizontal grooves. Red enamel remains visible in the upper groove. The lower bow and foot are missing.
At the rear of the object the hinge, pin and catchplate are missing. The object has a brownish green patina and is in fair condition. Similar examples can be found in Hattatt, (2000), p333 and have been dated to the 2nd Century AD.
