A copper alloy coated iron artefact, probably an end plate from a cylindrical (barrel) barb spring padlock of Medieval date, about AD 1066 - 1500. It consists of a flat disc with a large, central perforation in the shape of a plain cross, the arms of which reach almost to the edge of the disc. The artefact has a smooth, dark brown patina. It is 33mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 8.61gm.
