A fragment of a Medieval to post-Medieval cast copper-alloy vessel handle (c. 1250-c. 1650).
This fragment is the terminal of a handle. It is sub-rectangular in plan and roughly semi-circular in cross-section. The upper face is flat and plain.
The handle is matt green with patches of a black substance which may be consolidated soot. The transverse break is old.
Length: 45.0mm; width: 27.2mm; thickness: 9.6mm. Weight: 48.88g.
Cast cooking vessels seem to have come into use in the second half of the 13th century and to have continued at least until c. 1600 (Geake 2001: 52).
