A very worn copper-alloy farthing of, Post-Restoration, Post-Medieval date. The reverse is extremely worn. The reverse legend on this coin is now illegible but would have read BRITAN/NIA with a date in the exergue. Reverse is too worn to be seen but would have shown Britannia seated left, part of the exergue line and possibly part of the leg might just be visible but this is uncertain.
The obverse legend is illegible. The obverse seems to show a laureate cuirassed bust left. This farthing is either of Charles II, AD 1660-1685 (coin dating from AD 1672-1679) Spink p.335, no.3394, George II, AD 1727-1760 (coin dating from AD 1730-1754) Spink p.398, nos.3720-3722. Alternatively if the faint bust does not show a laureate and cuirass this would be a farthing of Anne, AD 1702-1714 (coin dating AD 1714 pattern only so very unlikely to be one of these) Spink p.378, no.3625. The profile of the nose, longer ribbon behind the neck of the laureate suggests that this is most likely to be a worn farthing of Charles II. Die axis is 6 o'clock which would be expected for all three proposed monarchs. Weight is 5.69g, diameter is 23.1mm, and thickness is 1.9mm.
