A cast copper-alloy loop handle of Medieval date. It is a heart shaped handle which is rectangular in section. The attachment stud is present and is sub-rectangular in shape and section. It has a circular hole for the handle.
This is a handle from a chafing dish similar to examples from Norwich (Margeson, 1993: nos. 489-491). It is of c.15th-16th century AD date.
Notes:
The dish would have been filled with charcoal and other vessels would have been placed over it, resting on the three supports, so that food could be kept warm.
